I was raised in La Mesa, California a small city about nine miles east of downtown San Diego. The “Jewel of the Hills,” as it is affectionately called, is a small, sleepy town, nestled between the congestion and gridlock of the 8, 94, and the 125 freeways. It is what I consider a hidden gem in the hectic environment of Southern California. I grew up in a house as the youngest of three brothers. My parents, who were also my role models, have lived in the same home for my entire life, and were the hardest working people I have ever known.

When I was a child, my Mother stayed at home, playing care taker, advisor, and referee in a house of energetic boys, a more than full time job in itself. As I got older she was a manager at a department store, and later owned an antique store in La Mesa, all while still providing us with all of the care and attention that we needed. My father also busted his tail every day to pay the tuition to put my brothers and I through Saint Augustine, a private Catholic School in San Diego. He worked two jobs, starting as a Lineman and working his way up to Engineer at Pacific Bell (now AT&T), and as a Gas Station Attendant between shifts. He even collected cans to make ends meet and provide for us opportunities that he was not awarded during his childhood.

Even though my parents gave me all the care and support possible, I was the rowdy and outspoken member of the family, always pushing boundaries and exploring my limits. I was never a bad kid, but I also did not really follow the straight and narrow, typical for any American teenager without a solid plan for the future. Then one day it all changed. My oldest brother passed away from Cancer, which is still the single most pivotal point in my life. Out of respect for him, I went from being an unruly teenager with a lack of direction, to an adult that valued integrity, honesty, and character.

After losing my brother, I started taking life more seriously and eventually ended up going to college. My parents always told us they would take care of our primary education, but we were on our own after that, so I worked full time and went to school as much as possible. I graduated at 26, definitely not on the traditional path, but I was the first person in my family to earn a degree, which is something that I am very proud of.

After graduation, I explored several professional careers. First, I followed my father’s footsteps to Pacific Bell, where I was an Engineering Manager for three years. Then my wife and I moved to Colorado for a couple of years, where I was a QA Manager for an IT company. After that, we moved back to San Diego, and I became a pharmaceutical sales representative for six years, and naturally progressing into the Medical Device Trade for a few years, as well. While working in the medical sales field, my specific department was drastically downsized, so I found myself searching for a direction, and decided to investigate other professions to pursue. I had applied an entrepreneurial approach to many of my previous positions, so I decided that I wanted to work independently, and I looked into starting my own company. I considered in-home residential care, mobile home parks, and storage units, but none of them really jumped out at me. I was also contemplating investing in property, so I decided to obtain my real estate license to make informed financial decisions, and as soon as I started learning about the field, I knew that it was the career I had been looking for!

After I got my license in 2013, I worked for a couple of different companies as an Associate Agent, and was also hired as a Managing Agent for nearly three years at my last firm. Recently, I was hired as a REALTOR© for AARE, which is where I am today.  Now that I have found a career that I love, I am also very fortunate to still live in the city where I was born and raised, which is also a huge part of who I am. Since La Mesa has been good so good to me, I wanted to return the favor, so I am very active in the community. I have served on the Board for La Mesa Historical Society, which keeps the history of my town alive, and I was also a Commissioner of the La Mesa Preservation Society, where I worked to sustain my city’s history. In addition, I am on the Advisory Board of the ARC of San Diego, where we make better lives for people with disabilities.

Besides working and volunteering, I maintain a very active personal life. I have been married to my wife for 23 years and we love to travel whenever possible, with our favorite destinations being Fiji and Tahiti.

I also love to work with my hands, restoring antique custom furniture and classic American Cars. I have restored a 54 Chevy Bel Air and a 64 Buick Riviera, and am currently refurbishing a 1954 Ford Truck. I am a firm believer in work hard, play hard, and that balance also helps adds to my accomplishments as an agent.

Even though my path to Real Estate has been anything but straight, my diversified background has led me to this point and is directly responsible for my success as an agent. From the lessons of hard-work, dedication, and sacrifice that my parents taught me, to the perseverance and diligence that I learned while working my way through college, to the management, sales, and customer service skills that I acquired in my previous careers, these experiences have all led me to my current successes.

My background and experience has taught me to take a community based approach to real estate. My business is not a transaction, where I sell you a house and then we move on. I take a relational approach to what I do. Once we work together, I plan on staying connected and working together in the future as well, even if it does not involve real estate. As a matter of fact, I am still connected to almost all of my previous clients to this day.

I would love nothing more than to lend my knowledge and experience toward helping you with your real estate endeavors, but I don’t expect your business simply because of our relationship—I only ask that you take the time to interview me and see if I might be the best agent for you.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. When you or someone you know is in need of a real estate agent, I hope you give me the opportunity to demonstrate my services and interview for the job.

Sincerely, Mickey Moreau
